Rutger Rauws Software Engineer

About me

Hi! Welcome on my homepage. My name is Rutger Rauws, and I am a 26-year-old Computer Scientist living in Eindhoven, The Netherlands.

In my spare time I keep an eye on anything that has to do with technology. This all started with typing lessons when I was still in elementary school. During high school I grew from being a web developer to being a C# programmer. I have collaborated with Microsoft during a project in high school and I became a Microsoft Student Partner.

After studying Computer Science at Delft University of Technology for a year I moved to Eindhoven and continued studying Computer Science. In Eindhoven I founded my own company called Rauws ICT and have helped various clients in the area for three years. During my academic carreer I shifted focus from Windows and .NET to GNU/Linux and languages such as C++. My interest lies in low-level software development and computer graphics.

Please find other information about me below. Feel free to contact me using the contact information at the top of the page.

In the Clinical Platforms team of Philips I worked on adapting an existing algorithm that is used to convert 2D greyscale images coming from medical scanners to 3D volumes. The focus of my study was on developing an efficient method to distribute the ray casting algorithm over a cluster of heterogeneous accelerators. My contribution was part of the final demonstration application used to show the capabilities of the European Union subsidised MANGO project

EHVXL, Co-founder, secretary, Eindhoven
Together with four other persons I have founded a non-profit organisation called ”EHVXL”. This platform, with over 90 members already, focuses on the urbanisation of the city of Eindhoven. We try to inform and enthuse citizens about future architecture and urban planning in the Eindhoven area. As a board member and secretary I am responsible for communication with the municipality and real-estate developers.

Eindhoven in Beeld, Volunteer, Eindhoven
The non-profit organisation called ”Eindhoven in Beeld” collects historic and actual photo and video material of the city of Eindhoven. With over 150.000 photos on record, it is very challenging to make all this information available to the users of their website. The current website is lacking responsive and consistent design, as well as a solid architecture. On a voluntary basis I have taken on the challenge to design and develop a new website that tries to address these issues.

Photography
As a hobby I have taken on photography. I have a passion for architecture but try to explore different fields, such as portrait and wedding photography. A collection of photos I have taken can be found on my Instagram page.

School magazine, Co-editor-in-chief, Almelo
During secondary school, I have spent the last three years as co-editor-in-chief and graphic designer of the local school magazine. I corrected articles, designed all pages, and ensured that these pages would be at the publisher on time.
